Scott Meyer / CEO & Founder
SPACER
Scott Meyer SPACER Scott created Better Advertising while an Entrepreneur in Residence at Warburg Pincus LLC, the global private equity firm that is supporting the company. From 2005-2008, Scott was President and CEO of About.com, a part of The New York Times Company. He spent eight years with The New York Times Company in a number of senior management roles. In addition to his role at About.com, he was the General Manager of the company's flagship website, The New York Times on the Web. He also served as vice president, strategic planning for The Boston Globe. Before joining The New York Times Company, Scott was with Multex.com (a venture-backed company which was acquired by Reuters in 2003 after a successful IPO in 1999), where he was Vice President and General Manager of its business-to-consumer division. Before beginning his media career, Scott worked in management consulting at The Boston Consulting Group and in investment banking at Merrill Lynch & Co. Scott holds an A.B. in Public Policy and American Institutions from Brown University, where he was a winner of the Rouse Prize for Economics. Scott also interned in the US Senate and in the Office of Management and Budget as a recipient of a White Internship from the Taubman Center for Public Policy at Brown. He has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Colin O'Malley / Business Development and Privacy, Co-Founder

Colin O'Malley SPACER Colin is in charge of Better Advertising's Design Partner Program, working with leading advertising agencies, advertisers, networks and industry associations. An expert in privacy matters, he was the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships & Programs at TRUSTe from 2003 to 2009, where he developed and launched self-regulatory programs for email (Bonded Sender Program, Email Privacy Seal) and Software (Trusted Download Program). He was also the CEO of Vocab Vitamins, a highly adaptable online vocabulary service, from 2003 to 2007.

Earlier he was the Manager of Product Development at NetCreations from 1999 to 2002. Colin has a BS in Economics and Human and Organizational Development from Vanderbilt University.

Ed Kozek / Engineering & Product Development, Co-Founder

Ed Kozek SPACER Ed leads Engineering and Product Development for Better Advertising. Before joining the company, Ed was Vice President of Engineering and Product Management at Right Media, the first and largest online advertising exchange. When it was acquired by Yahoo! in 2007, Right Media was processing more than 8 billion impressions per day and supporting tens of thousands of businesses.

As Senior Director of Engineering at Yahoo!, Ed also worked on Yahoo's APT advertising platform as well as number complex integration projects. Ed has also held roles as Vice President of Engineering of Bounty Jobs, an online marketplace in the recruiting industry; Senior Software Engineer at Spotfire, Inc. (acquired by TIBCO in 2007); Marketing Manager at Millipore, Inc.; and Writer and Editor at Hoover's Online. Ed has a BA from the University of Massachusetts.

Scott Klass / Vice President, Marketing

SPACER Scott leads Better Advertising’s marketing efforts. As one of the early employees at Right Media, Scott helped to introduce a new sector to the market – the digital advertising exchange – and reposition Right Media as the fundamental player in that space. Simplifying a complex story and telling it through an array of unique initiatives, Scott helped to secure Right Media’s reputation as a transformative digital advertising business. He led the company’s marketing efforts through acquisition by Yahoo! In 2007. Scott guided the development of Yahoo!’s B2B messaging platform and marcom initiatives around the company’s APT advertising platform. His 14 years in digital media include roles at Napster/Pressplay, InfoBeat, Sony Music Entertainment and interCLICK.

Scott is also a songwriter and leader of The Davenports, an alternative band best known for the theme to A&E’s Emmy-award-winning television series, Intervention. Scott has a BA in American Studies from Brandeis University.

John D. McCarthy / Acting Chief Financial Officer

SPACER John has over 20 years experience in financial and operational management for startups and publicly traded companies. He has recently been acting CFO for several NY-area venture backed companies including Etsy, Stylesight and 20x200.com. Prior to that he was acting CFO and SVP of Sales for Globix, the hosting and managed services company, during and after its successful restructuring. Earlier in his career he was Vice President of Business Affairs at Young & Rubicam and a Controller at United Technologies. He received an MBA degree from Wharton and a Masters degree in International Studies from Wharton's Lauder Institute. He received his undergraduate degree in Asian Studies from Connecticut College and is proficient in Mandarin Chinese.

Sim Simeonov / Acting Chief Technology Officer, Co-Founder

Sim Simeonov SPACER Sim is the acting CTO of Better Advertising. He is the Founder and CEO of FastIgnite, where he helps entrepreneurs shape promising ideas, raise capital, build teams and execute across all stages of the startup lifecycle. Prior to starting FastIgnite, Sim spent seven years as Technology Partner at Polaris Venture Partners and as the Vice President of Emerging technologies and Chief Architect at Macromedia (now Adobe). Earlier, Sim was Founding Member and Chief Architect at Allaire, one of the first large Internet platform companies. Sim has an MA in Computer Science from Boston University and a BA in Computer Science, Economics and Mathematics from Macalester College.

Sarah Fay / Advertising Industry Advisor

Sarah Fay SPACER Sarah Fay is a veteran of the media services industry: in her two decades of experience, she has developed and implemented groundbreaking new models for advertising and media. Over the course of her career, Sarah has become a well-known voice in the advertising industry on the topics of digital marketing and media integration. She has helped to build one of the most recognized digital companies in the world through a combination of acquisitions, new business wins, and organic growth. 

In her role as President of Carat Interactive and then President of Isobar, Sarah orchestrated the successful acquisitions and merging of several companies including Lot21, Vizium, Freestyle Interactive, Molecular, iProspect, Ammo and Bluestreak. Sarah is also responsible for launching Isobar Mobile, a highly regarded mobile marketing entity.

Mark Naples / Communications, Privacy & Government Affairs Advisor

SPACER Mark is the Managing Partner for WIT Strategy, a strategic communications consultancy that serves clients who do business on the web in the US, Europe, and Latin America. He is the former Vice President of Marketing, Investor Relations, and Privacy Officer for 24/7 Real Media (NASDAQ:TFSM). Mark's experience in media, marketing and public affairs with firms such as Ogilvy & Mather and Kearns & West has ranged from lobbying for the "Baby Bells" as part of the Telecom Reform Act of 1994 and testifying before the Senate Commerce Committee in 2001 on Privacy. He has written and placed thousands of bylined and other articles for clients on topics as diverse as privacy, healthcare, the environment, and civil rights that have been published in dozens of media outlets from The Wall Street Journal and New York Times to Governing Magazine and Advertising Age. Mark holds a BA in Religion from Haverford College.

Jim Garrity / Advertising Industry Advisor

SPACER Jim Garrity is the founder and CEO of Bellwether Digital Bridge, LLC., a marketing consultancy helping advertisers, agencies and digital media companies bridge the gap between the worlds of traditional and digital communications. Prior to his retirement from Wachovia in 2007, Garrity served as the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for Wachovia for more than a decade. Prior to Wachovia, Garrity held executive roles in sales and marketing at both IBM (last position there was Director of Advertising, IBM US), and Compaq where he was Vice President, Communications. From 1995 – 2007 he served on the Board of Directors of the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) which he chaired in 1998. He also founded the ANA’s New Technologies Committee in 1995 and chaired it until he retired from Wachovia. He is currently a Non-Executive Director of Burst Media and is Chairman of Canoe Ventures’ Advisory Board, Chairman of Digitalsmiths’ Advisory Board and serves as an advisor to Marketshare Partners, Better Advertising, and Send it Certified.

Daniel Jaye / Advertising Industry, Technology & Privacy Advisor, Co-Founder

Daniel Jaye SPACER Daniel works closely with Better Advertising to develop its industry leading technology platform and advises the company on advertising industry and privacy matters. Daniel has held many leadership roles in Internet advertising and privacy space. He is the author of key web privacy standards, has been an advisor to the Federal Trade Commission, co-founded of the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI), and holds early patents in behavioral targeting and internet privacy. Daniel is the former President of TACODA, bought by AOL in 2007, and the Chairman and CTO of Permissus from 2001 to 2005. He founded and was the CTO of Engage from 1995 to 2001 and was the acting CTO of CMGI from 1995 to 1999. Daniel has a BA in Astronomy and Astrophysics & Physics from Harvard University.

Lydia Parnes / Privacy and Regulatory Counsel

Lydia Parnes SPACER Lydia Parnes is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where her practice focuses on privacy, data security, Internet advertising, and general advertising and marketing practices. The former director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection (BCP) at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Lydia is a highly regarded expert in the field of consumer protection. In 2006, she served as the deputy executive director of the President's Task Force on Identity Theft, coordinating the efforts of 17 federal agencies in developing a national strategic plan to combat identity theft in both the private and public sectors.

Lydia has a JD from the Washington College of Law at American University and a BA in Political Science from American University.

Greg Tagaris / Technology & Operations Advisor, Co-Founder

Greg Tagaris SPACER Greg comes to Better Advertising from twelve years at DoubleClick, most recently as Chief Information Officer from 2005 until the company's acquisition by Google. He has been a Consultant at Google since 2008. Greg also has engineering experience at the Modularm Corporation, ConEd, and Cahners Publishing.

Greg has a BA in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic University.
